Listening to your skin

Sesderma is a brand dedicated to the research, development and manufacturing of dermocosmetics. And they do so through their highly specialized R+D+i and Nanotechnology. Dr. Gabriel Serrano is the President, and his two elder sons Gabriel and Juan Manuel are Vice-President and CEO, respectively. Their raison d’être is the health and well-being of people, achieved by actively listening to the skin of their patients. Their motto Listening to your skin defines this: Inspiration, motivation and teamwork driven by more than 600 people working at Sesderma all over the world.

Sesderma laboratories are inspired by the same values professed by Dr. Gabriel Serrano’s know how: generosity and humanity. Entire company culture is permeated by those principles, its approachability, empathy and ability to listen are what makes Sesderma stand out from the competition. Furthermore, during the company’s development, they have always been connected to nature. This connection goes beyond the compounds of its products, based on active ingredients present in our environment and embodied by their butterfly logo.

Dr. Gabriel Serrano is a butterfly lover, a symbol with different meanings for Sesderma. Butterflies make transatlantic journeys like the one that took its founder from Colombia to the city of Valencia, and led to the creation of the company. Interestingly, this Latin-American country happens to have the largest number of species in the world.

The butterfly also symbolises change, beauty, sensitivity and magic, and these qualities are present in the Sesderma products. It is a company which, like butterflies do when abandoning their cocoon, was built with the effort and drive to overcome all obstacles.

Avelina Hats

Avelina hats are hand crafted with all kinds of materials. That is nothing new for Avelina Rojas since taking advantage of all kinds of materials is something that did not start with hats. She begun in Madrid in a place that we would now call ‘concept store’, which at the time local people did not even know what it was. They were young designers, recycling materials, recovering furniture… doing everything you can do with your hands in a space where there are art exhibitions, you can have a coffee or shop.

Life took her to London and in ten years she spent in UK there was a time when she realized that you can’t miss what you love. Avelina made her first hat for her sister’s wedding and all kind of accessories too, but her bet was to dress heads. It’s something she really loves.

She works on request and also makes her own collections, unique millinery pieces born out of artistic passion and the creative impulse of Avelina Rojas. Over time, she has introduced hats and headpieces that can be worn on special occasions or even every day, pieces that combine a classic cut with a touch of the modern and exotic. Avelina Hats are always hand-made and each single piece is individually crafted by her.

Avelina Rojas makes hats that have become symbols of the contemporary woman, underlining her strength, personality and lifestyle.

Caviar de Riofrío

Sublime is the adjective that defines the environment in Riofrío where the first certified organic caviar is produced in the world. That was the reason that led a Spanish doctor – Dr. Domezain – to expand his trout farming business in 1963. He chose Riofrío, a small village in Loja (Granada) which grew considerably thanks to his initiative, and built the primitive fish farm around the infrastructure of the San José hydroelectric plant, just 300 metres from the spring.

Caviar from Spain

Water temperature is stable between 14-15ºC, and nature itself is in charge of keeping it in optimal conditions. In addition, there is no agricultural, livestock or human activity in the sierra, and water is therefore free of pesticides and fertilizers. 30 years later, the Acipenser naccarií sturgeon was recovered in captivity, a species that is almost extinct and is native to the Guadalquivir River and other rivers in southern Europe. Riofrío is located in the same river basin and its water conditions of purity and temperature allowed, from the first day, to reproduce the natural habitat of the fish. The sturgeon is of prehistoric origin and its growth is slow. In fact, the caviar is extracted from the females, on average, after 18 years of breeding. Hence, its nuances in terms of taste and color, and that it is subtle and highly appreciated by gourmets around the world, including renowned chefs.

Current reality around this exquisite product is wrapped in misinformation. Today, Caviar of Riofrío‘s commitment to traceability is more important than ever. 70% of the product consumed in the world today originates from fish farms in China. It is not Russian, nor Iranian and of course, it is not wild. In 1990s, a decree by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) declared sturgeon as an endangered species and therefore banned its fishing. Producers could no longer catch the huge specimens from the Caspian Sea. The time had come to look for fish farms with optimal conditions and Caviar of Riofrío played right its advantage for it.

Its elaboration is based on the purest Russian tradition, applied by the experts of Caviar of Riofrío with the right point of salt (Malossol Style) to preserve the purity and quality of the freshest caviar. It’s available in the classic metal can format and in two categories: Classic and Excellsius.

Pura López

The Spanish footwear label Pura Lopez catwalk trends are reworked using quality materials and a long tradition of skilled Spanish craftsmanship. Pura Lopez shoes and boots are all about feminine elegance with a trademark Spanish flair. High-gloss patent and soft suede are fashioned into ankle boots, kitten heels and classic pumps.

Lopez creates two collections a year that embrace several fashion concepts. As a result, each collection goes up to 200 styles per season. That large amount is due to the fact that Lopez always has in mind all the types of women that she is designing for. She considers the bone structure, the height and time of the day. First she creates a group of High Fashion – Runway shoes. Then the same process is repeated for classic evergreen style; then for chic and elegant style; then for conservative target etc. But not all the models are then exposed. After the development Lopez chooses only the most interesting and innovative ones and sends them to the production. As cold weather bites ankle boots work from the office through to evenings out especially when they’re given the Pura Lopez touch with a flirty tasselled strap. Smartly balance their block heels with an A-line dress and boxy jacket. A sassy cut to the shaft paired with a hidden platform and a stiletto heel create a feminine ankle boot that we think works perfectly as a date night foil to pencil skirts and the edgy boyfriend look of a leather biker jacket.

A pair of Pura Lopez kitten heels crafted in a high-gloss patent and deep shade pull together a relaxed weekend outfit of slouchy drawstring trousers and the latest catwalk passion for embroidered bomber jackets. When the design is also worked in a delicate nude shade it turns into a beautiful wedding shoe that doesn’t detract from the main event of the show, your wedding dress. If parties and special occasions are in your diary then put on the Ritz with Pura Lopez classic heels with a glittery finish. Go for a high-low look in silky midi skirts and T-shirts or sweatshirts that carry an edgy rock band graphic.

In its sixth edition, the award in the category of Best Footwear Industry went to the company Mila and Pedro García. Likewise, the prize for Innovative Entrepreneurship went to the children’s footwear company Pisamonas.

The brothers Mila and Pedro Garcia form the third generation to run this family shoe company. Mila is the general manager and Pedro is brand’s creative director. They took over from their father, who was also named Pedro García like their grandfather, who founded the company in 1925.

Creative directors control all phases of production, enabling a unique design process. The talent of the designers is combined with the hands of the craftsmen and transforms the factory into a “design laboratory”, where they experiment until reach the ideal aesthetic solution.

Strong or subtle, glass is present in their collections from the very beginning. They have explored its possibilities and taken it further by rediscovering its brilliance from a contemporary perspective, outside its usual environment. All of the brand’s shoes are manufactured at its headquarters in Elda (Alicante).

Today, celebrities like Queen Letizia, Michelle Obama, Penélope Cruz, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Lana del Rey or Lupita Nyong’o have worn their luxury shoes.

Palomo Spain

Palomo Spain is a Spanish designer of colourful men’s fashion who bets for the fluid gender. Alejandro Gómez Palomo, a young man born in 1992 in Cordoba, has always been keen on the world of fashion. With the support of his family and willing to achieve his goal, he moved to London. He worked as a waiter for a while and then managed to get into the Liberty and WGSN brands, and would eventually enrol in Men’s Design and Technology at the London College of Fashion.

With his first collections he managed to sneak into such prestigious outlets as Opening Ceremony in New York and attract the attention of former Vogue Paris director Carine Roitfeld. But if there’s one merit attributable to Palomo, which is rare for an industry like Spain’s, it’s that his garments aroused the interest of both, media and consumers.

Silk gowns and pyjamas, prints, ruffles and brocades make up a maximalist aesthetic with baroque reminiscences and Andalusian airs, very much in the line of the latest Gucci that, along the way, turns the gender difference upside down. His ultimate intention is to bring Haute Couture closer to ready-to-wear and “reinvent masculinity, but from a natural point of view: let them dress as they like”. Almódovar, Rossy de Palma and Miley Cyrus are among his unconditional followers.

Palomo Spain workshop of his baroque proposals is still in his village: “I work with three other people in the workshop and, for the moment, we do everything ourselves,” he said. In just over a year, Palomo Spain has already paraded in New York, has been a finalist in the LVMH Prize 2017 and has managed to get Beyoncé herself to pose with her twins in one of his designs. In 2018, the brand takes a giant leap when it opens Paris Fashion Week. “There’s creativity, diversity and a little bit of disruption. We are looking forward to it,” commented the French Haute Couture and Fashion Federation. Soon after, he made her debut on Spanish TV as a judge for the talent show Maestros de la Costura which is screening its third season.

Duyos is pura Vida

Travelling means discovering places, enjoying unique experiences, new sensations, fun, relaxation, escapism… Atelier Duyos collection is taking us to Costa Rica. Waterfalls and toucans, ancient architecture and trees, coffee plantations and volcanoes… the pure life running through Costa Rica is more than a myth.

The myriad greens of a tropical rainforest. Hypnotic blues like the glittering sea. Swathes of pinks, reds and oranges like the Costa Rican flowers.

Duyos Costa Rica

As to fabrics…
Hallucinogenic plant life in chiffon and gemstones.
Teardrop paillettes like the wings of a macaw.
Hummingbirds embroidered in silk.
Aerial views of a kaleidoscopic landscape covered in sequins.
Genuine luxury: craftsmanship and tradition.

Shapes
The brutalist architecture of San Jose.
As sinuous as the Orosi valley.
Majestic as the Arenal volcano.
As long and wild as a waterfall.
Relaxed and smooth like the Pacific coastline.

As to accessories, sustainability as a Costa Rican philosophy and craftsmanship as a way of life take shape in huge earrings and headdresses, giving new life to plastic and glass.
